Day 8 - last day in Radda

Today we had our hearts set on a hike. We weren't exactly sure where we would go or how long we would be, but with our tennies laced up tight we embarked.

We tried a hiking app first but when that didn't work we decided it was best to just follow our google maps directions. Last night, our shuttle driver told us about another little hill town in the distance called Volpaia. Noreen Martin had also mentioned it as a nice spot to visit so we set it in our phones and took off walking down the road.

Although it was a little dicey at times walking alongside traffic, almost all the drivers were extremely courteous and would slow down while they passed us.

Once in the town, we explored a little a poked around. It was extremely quiet with only a church, a couple restaurants, and one man selling his handmade jewelry. We sat down at a little restaurant called Bar Ucci and had a bite to eat and a well earned glass (or two of wine).

Since it was nearly 5 miles to Volpaia, we had initially intended to walk there and then take a taxi home. Paula, our waitress at Ucci, gave us a sympathetic laugh when we asked about taxis in the area, as she told us the nearest taxi comes all the way from Siena - meaning it would likely be a 100€ trip. We then asked about Uber and she gave us a very perplexed look, saying "what is Uber?" So.... After another glass of wine we rallied ourselves for the 5 mile walk back to Radda.

We stopped at a winery halfway and bought some nice bottles and had a good chat with a man that spoke extremely good English.

About a mile and a half out of Radda a very nice couple offered to drive us into town, but we were so close and too proud so we passed. Right outside of town, mama found a short cut and we ended up hopping electric fences and walks on rock walls to make it back to the sidewalks.

When we got back to the room we enjoyed a bottle of the wine we bought and settled in for a little nap before dinner at our favorite spot in town - Le Vigne.

Radda has been amazing. The food, people, and scenery just keeps getting better on this trip. Our adventure continues tomorrow morning with a drive into our next stop, Montepulciano!
