Day 3

I woke up in a storybook! Grindelwald is a dream with its rolling green hills, singing birds, cottage homes with petunias pouring out the windows, goat herds sprinkled here and there, and dramatic clouds shrouding the alpine mountain tops.
The toad here yesterday from Zurich got me a little sick and I had to ask to pull over at one point. Luckily I just needed a breather but I think Dramamine is in order for our next trip. We left Zurich yesterday morning after a delicious breakfast at the hotel and a funny check-out process in which we did a live re-enactment of the Jerry Seinfeld skit where we dispute the restaurant bill... only this time our sticker shock was due to the room price. In the end, we think the bill is correct even if it was a hard one to swallow.
Back to Grindelwald! Belvedere is a nice place with lots of character. Our room has two balconies and we slept with the doors open all night long.
We had a long chat with the restaurant owner and his son over dinner. They are big fans of Brian Ackerman and we’re glad we stopped. Carol - mom’s contact from Belvedere - is a hotelier school in Lucerne so we’re not sure if she will get her socks... maybe today.
When we got into town yesterday we took a little exploring walk-about to see the shops and restaurants. We ended up taking the Gondola up to a midway point and walking down. Even though mom insisted that walking downhill does not count as cardio exercise, my booty is sore today! Post-hike we went to the co-op for some wine and then to a delightful little cheese shop (mom saw it and dad hiked up the hill to seek it out) filled with local products like mountain cheeses, hard garlic and pork salami, and fresh-baked bread. Heaven! I got a knife from the front desk so we could slice up some cheese and apples and have snacks before dinner. Our appetizer was completed by a call to Grandma Phyllis. Such a fun day!
