Day
one in Zurich was really like a day two carry-over from our travels to Eurooae.
We arrived at the airport at about 9am Zurich time (6pm American time) and made
it through the whole first day with only one nap. Our flights over were
unremarkable, apart from one brusk, seemingly-German flight attendant who woke
mama up to have breakfast before landing - insisting that “she needed to have
energy for the day from a good breakfast!” There was no arguing!
Once
we got to the hotel, we left our bags with the front desk and explored the town
after a quick cup of coffee. Mom and I both seemed to have what we called “sea
legs” which we weren’t sure to attribute to the number of trains and subways
running (and vibrating) above and below ground, or simply to the fact that our
bodies had been in the air too long.
After
exploring a bit - and finding every chocolate shop in eyesight - we went back
to the room for a shower and a nap. Once awake we met up with Steve, Meg, and
Kate for drinks at a cute bar near the river. Kate and Meg tried convincing us
that a swim in the river is not to be missed... we still aren’t sure on that
one!
Dinner was at Castelina Antenori where we sat upstairs
and dined window-side. I had some delicious minestrone, while dad had fish and
mom had a truffle pasta. After dinner, we meandered back to the room. Mom and
dad got a night cap at the bar and I slipped up to the room to enjoy my pillow
chocolate and a solid chunk of sleep. As I wrote this, it’s 4:40 in the morning
and I’ve already been up an hour. Adjusting to the time change and researching
what’s on tap for tomorrow.
