Day 5

Day 5 in Grindelwald consisted of hiking the Eiger trail with Hans Rudy, Francie, and Jan. We met up with them around 10:30 in the hotel lobby and didn’t return back to the hotel until 6:30 in the evening! Talk about s full day! Along the way, we had delicious meats and cheeses, tried what is known as “Mountain Coffee” (a splash of coffee with prune brandy), and had some wild berry cake as well. The trek was trying at 10 miles long, even if it was mostly downhill. We were all quite glad to be back home and in the shower at 7.
Dinner was again at Di Salvi where we had more of their rotisserie meats and an ice cream sundae for dessert. For our nightcap, we came back to the hotel bar where mom and dad had wine and beer and I asked for a drink with Fernet. Our bartender didn’t know of any drinks off hand, but looked one up with mint, vodka, vermouth, and an orange peel, and gladly made it for me. He also whipped up a second one with a different concoction of coffee, cinnamon, and cream. Both to die for! Our night ended with a couple games of pool and then some strudel in the room. We miss the dogs but we love these hikes!
